About Sara Blackthorne

I have always been one who lives in the spaces between.

I thrive in liminal places, the space of both/and, the moment between the exhale and next inhale. It is in navigating this world between worlds that I learned how to see beyond the surface: of people, of experiences, of a lifetime. In every moment there are a million possibilities at play, and I possess a brain and spirit that can see them in a vast web of interconnected stories and energy.

It sounds pretty woo-woo. I recognize that. If I didn’t live it every day, I might not understand it all.

But I do live it every day.

I share space in conversation with strangers and watch as a word or a thought takes them down a rabbit-hole of memory and ideas in an instant — something I shouldn’t be able to see, but do. I hold my beloveds close as they remove yet another layer of a carapace designed to keep them safe, but really only keeping them separate from the world they inhabit. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a casual conversation — it only takes a moment for me to go deep with someone if they are willing.

Experience

I started reading tarot in the basement of a Lutheran church. I would run through the pine forest around my home and then find rest in a bed of pine needles — sometimes joined by a deer or two. I listen for what sounds appear in the spaces between waking and sleep. I exist in many realms, in many communities, in many ways — and am also of the edges. I feel most comfortable when I am part of a container, not just within.

“Magic is the art of actively using the powers of the soul.”

Rev Donald Lewis-Highcorrell offers this definition of magic, and it is one that closely resembles my own. It is the intrinsic elements — breath, emotion, passion, body — that create every experience we have as humans with souls. These things work together and bring us awareness, understanding, fear. And it is these elements that allow me to show up and let the alchemy of witnessing another work through me.

I’ve spent 20 years creating and facilitating ritual, both public and very private, and weaving into each experience the trust required to be fully present and fully seen by others. Whatever your work in the world, when you are interacting with even one other being (human or more-than-human) you risk being seen. I can help you find some comfort in being seen, by reflecting back for you the radiance and wisdom I see.

I will offer you hard questions
to get at the root of your truth.

Background

My teachers are as varied as there are stars in the sky.

Formally, I studied in the Unitarian Universalist tradition of my childhood, the magical traditions of Neen Namre Lillquist, and the ritual creation and priestess training program of the Spiral Door School. Each of these traditions has their flaws, and I have learned and grown through them all. I also have lots of experience from the school of life — from childhood trauma to broken families to poverty and houselessness to somehow surviving against all the odds. And this experience is equally valid.

I approach all of my work through a trauma-informed, radical-consent, anti-racist and anti-capitalist feminist lens. If you want to fight me on any of these things, this is not the work for you. You might check out google.

I have a heart as wide as the ocean and a capacity to love that is deeper than the Mariana Trench. Everything I do comes from Love. Everything.

I swear like a well-educated sailor and I have no issues with the ways I choose to utilize language. If you do, then we aren’t a good match.
